Over my Fall Break, Jason, Carter, and I took our first family vacation (just the three of us). We had such a wonderful time...it was good to get away! Carter had a good time minus the fact that he got an ear infection and bronchitis while we were down there. He didn't really sleep the greatest while we were there but I thought that was because we were in a new place and his schedule was kind of off. Yeah, guess I was wrong! Such a bad mother....it so hard to know with the little ones. When I took him to the doctor the day after we got home, she looked in his ear and said "Oh my!" Yeah not a good thing to hear from your baby's doctor. Anyway, we got him some antibiotics and he seems to be doing good.
Here is a quick recap of our short, but much needed, vacation. We flew out on Thursday evening, right after Jason got off work. Direct flights are wonderful when flying with a 9 month old. We got to Tampa around 8 p.m., got our rental car, and were off to the condo. I forgot to mention that Carter threw up on Jason's leg, not once, but twice on the flight. Not your little baby spit up, real throw up. How disgusting! So Carter had two wardrobe changes in the plane....leaving him in his last outfit. When we landed in Tampa, we realized his diaper was leaking. What else?!? So, yes, Carter was being carried around the airport wrapped in my nursing cover and a diaper until we got out luggage. Everything else had been thrown up on or peed on.
We got to the condo around 10, unpacked, and went to bed for the night. The first day we were there it was a little rainy so we headed to the outlet mall right by the condo. I actually found some good deals on winter sweaters...I guess the Floridans don't need them.
In the evening, our good friend Becky, meet us at the condo for dinner. She is the mother of Luke's girlfriend, Molly (yes, our dog had a girlfriend in Florida). Luckily, we hung out with Becky a lot when we lived down there so Luke and Molly also got to see each other a lot.
Saturday, the weather was amazing. After Carter's nap, we headed to the beach to soak up the rays and play in the sand. You really can't lay out with a 9 month old but we still enjoyed the warm weather. We lasted for about an hour before we headed in for lunch and Carter's afternoon nap. After his nap, we took the jogging stroller out on the beach and walked for about two hours (I was impressed with my husband)! Of course Jason and I, forgot to put sunblock on and yes got burnt. Luckily, I didn't get as burnt as bad as Jason! He peeled for a couple of weeks :) We headed to dinner at our favorite Greek restaurant by the condo and rented a couple of movies to watch. It's always an early night with the little guy.
Sunday we enjoyed another morning of soaking up the rays. In the afternoon, we went to Moat Marine Aquarium. Jason interned there for a couple of summers when he was staying at the condo. Carter enjoyed seeing all of the sea life as well as this one old lady that worked there. Everytime she came by, he would just stare at her instead of looking at the sea animals. It made her feel good! After the Aquarium, we went to St. Armin's Circle for dinner at Cha Cha Coconuts. St. Armin's has lots of neat shops that we just window shop at (a little too pricey for us). We did get some fudge at the candy shop, which was quite tasty.
Monday we went to visit the Scheda folk at Scheda Ecological (the company Jason worked out while we lived in Tampa). They are all wonderful people and it was good to visit with them for a bit. We also got to see Emery, who was born a month before we moved back to Indy. His parents both worked at Scheda....he has grown so much! He and Carter played on the floor together for a bit, well Emery just untied Carter's shoes. After the visit, it was off to the airport to head home to the cold weather. We were suppose to connect through Chicago but ended up connecting through Philadelphia and Chicago. We had to stay on the plane while we were in Philadelphia and wait for more passengers and a crew change. Keep in mind, this was during nap time and Carter had an unknown ear infection....made for a great flight. Three flights later we finally made it home!
